Maha Shivaratri Celebrations

Maha Shivaratri is an important religious occasion in Chitradurga because of the district’s numerous historic Shiva temples and strong Shaiva traditions.

Temples conduct special pujas, abhishekam, devotional programmes, night-long prayers and cultural/religious discourses. In 2026, preparations and special programmes were reported across Chitradurga for Maha Shivaratri.

Important temples associated with the district’s religious heritage include Hidimbeshwara Temple, Ekanatheshwari Temple and other historic shrines within and around Chitradurga Fort. The district administration notes that the fort itself contains several historic temples.
