Aadumalleshwara Zoo, also known as Adumalleshwara Mini Zoo, is a small zoological park on Aadumaleshwara Road in Chitradurga, Karnataka. It is notable for combining wildlife conservation, environmental education, and family recreation within a compact forested setting near the city.

What it offers

The zoo houses around 149 species according to its official visitor information, including mammals, birds, and reptiles. Visitors can see animals such as the Indian leopard, Sloth bear, Blackbuck, Marsh crocodile, spotted deer, nilgai, emus, peafowl, pheasants, and several parrot species. The grounds also include walking paths, a children’s park, gardens, a refreshment center, and visitor amenities.

Conservation and history

The mini zoo was opened to the public in 1987 and lies within an 8.5-hectare area associated with the Jogimatti forest region, about 5 km south of Chitradurga. It has operated under the Zoo Authority of Karnataka since 2017 and is recognized by the Central Zoo Authority. Its stated goals include wildlife conservation, public education, promoting awareness of human–wildlife coexistence, and providing opportunities for animal adoption programs.

Planning a visit

The zoo is generally open 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM and is closed every Tuesday. Official guidance notes that visitors interested in viewing big cats may have better chances in the early morning or late afternoon, when they are typically more active. Published entry fees are ₹40 for adults and ₹20 for children, with separate parking charges for vehicles.
