Events

Chitradurga district has numerous Rathotsavas, annual temple fairs and village Jathres. These events are particularly important in smaller towns and villages where religious traditions are closely connected with community life. A Rathotsava generally features a decorated temple chariot being taken through designated streets with devotees participating in the procession. Temporary markets, food stalls, folk performances and traditional activities often accompany the celebrations. The district's long history of religious and cultural traditions is reflected in its many temples and heritage sites. The Government of Karnataka describes Chitradurga's heritage as a combination of Nayaka-era traditions and local folk culture
