Indus Waters Treaty Becomes International Issue

The Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague has issued a ruling concerning the Indus Waters Treaty between India and Pakistan.

According to Reuters, the court said the treaty remains in force and ruled on India’s suspension of the agreement and issues connected with hydroelectric projects in Jammu and Kashmir. India has rejected the court’s jurisdiction and said the ruling has no bearing on its sovereign decisions or ongoing projects.

The Indus Waters Treaty has remained an important part of India-Pakistan relations for decades, making developments surrounding the agreement significant for regional diplomacy and water security.
