Congress MLA N. Y. Gopalakrishna sparked a political debate after suggesting that the Molakalmuru constituency could be merged either with neighbouring Andhra Pradesh or with Challakere in Karnataka to improve development prospects.
The MLA reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the constituency’s development and funding. His remarks attracted political attention because Molakalmuru is one of the six Assembly constituencies in Chitradurga district.
The issue has brought renewed focus to regional development, irrigation, infrastructure and government funding in Molakalmuru.
