Maha Shivaratri is an important religious occasion in Chitradurga because of the district's numerous historic Shiva temples and strong Shaiva traditions. Temples conduct special pujas, abhishekam, devotional programmes, night-long prayers and cultural/religious discourses. In 2026, preparations and special programmes were reported across Chitradurga for Maha Shivaratri. Important temples associated with the district's religious heritage include Hidimbeshwara Temple, Ekanatheshwari Temple and other historic shrines within and around Chitradurga Fort. The district administration notes that the fort itself contains several historic temples. |

Nayakanahatti Jathra is one of the most important traditional religious fairs in Chitradurga district. It is associated with Sri Guru Thipperudraswamy, a highly revered saint whose teachings and traditions have a strong influence in the region. The festival attracts large numbers of devotees from Chitradurga and neighbouring districts. One of its major attractions is the large decorated wooden chariot, which devotees participate in pulling. Alongside religious ceremonies, the fair creates a lively atmosphere with temporary shops, food stalls, cultural activities and traditional gatherings. Karnataka Tourism notes that the Jathra is held every February or March and attracts thousands of devotees. Historical documentation of the fair has also recorded very large visitor numbers. |
