Chitradurga has a diverse agricultural base, with ragi, maize, groundnut, Bengal gram, minor millets and onion among the major crops grown in the district.
According to NABARD’s Chitradurga 2026–27 planning document, Kharif sowing covered 281,395 hectares in 2023–24, while Rabi sowing covered 45,021 hectares. The document also records significant production of maize, groundnut and ragi during that period.
The district’s agricultural economy remains strongly influenced by rainfall, irrigation availability, input costs and market prices.
Increasing productivity through better seeds, soil management, irrigation and improved farming techniques remains an important priority.
