Rainfall Shortage Creates Fresh Concerns for Farmers in Chitradurga

Rainfall conditions have become an important concern for farmers across Chitradurga district as Karnataka faces a weak monsoon season. The India Meteorological Department has forecast below-normal rainfall for September 2026 after August rainfall was reported to be 16% below normal across India.

The situation is significant for Chitradurga because agriculture in the district is predominantly rainfed. Reduced rainfall can affect soil moisture, crop growth, sowing decisions and availability of water for livestock.

Farmers are being encouraged to closely monitor local rainfall and available water before making decisions on water-intensive crops.
