Farmers in Chitradurga district faced difficulties selling draught bulls after buying animals in anticipation of a normal agricultural season.
The traditional buying and selling of bulls is closely associated with the agricultural cycle in the region. Many farmers had purchased Hori draught bulls, including Amruthmahal breed animals, during May and early June, expecting normal rainfall and agricultural activity.
However, changing agricultural practices, rainfall uncertainty and increasing mechanisation have affected the demand for traditional draught animals.
The situation highlights the changing relationship between livestock, farming practices and rural incomes in Chitradurga.
